Tears and Salty Waters

I have not been good in writing blogs lately.

But I promised I have been good in living my life.

I decided to take a big selah/pause moment last June-July. Need to do some head-heart recalibrating as well as some sorting out in my brain. Took a month-long holiday that was very much needed, jumped on a plane and went to a beautiful corner of Indonesia.

The place is called Derawan Islands - East Borneo. When I first dipped my toes in that salty waters, my heart and eyes were welled-up in tears.

I have forgotten how much I love this.

Growing up, my parents have kindly groomed my love for water -swimming, snorkeling, or even running through water fountains. Sadly, I got distracted with the business of life.

Bills to pay, brothers to tend to, getting into good schools, getting my masters.

And finally, achieving my lifelong dreams.

What's next? After you tick all the boxes, achieved your dreams and done your life-chores... I guess you will have to find the courage and the patience to find another dream, another race to be fought.

We get so caught up in planning a life we forgot to life now. We forgot that this is not rehearsal. This is it.

These unapologetic holiday will be a recurring events, for sure, as I promised to be kinder to my own soul. Maya Angelou puts a brilliant perspective on a "day off".

“Every person needs to take one day away.  A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future.  Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence.  Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for.  Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
